Carmona was formerly a settlement known as Latag, which was annexed on the city of Silang upon the latter's creation in 1595. The origins of its identify are not known. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag right into a town, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
